And The Democrats Take The House...

Well, yesterday was a big day in American politics and me being the political scientist that I am, there must be some discussion of what went down last night *grin*

Well, I was a government major in college and specialized in international relations so I love to discuss the different political issues. Tuesday was VERY enjoyable to watch because I was mildly surprised about the Democrats winning. And even though I'm a Republican, I really think this result is for the best. We seem to work best under divided government (Clinton and Reagan Administrations) because it keeps the other side from getting too arrogant and full of themselves.  Though I'm a registered Republican, I have to admit that my party has not done a good job of running things these last few years.  They had an opportunity to really hit this ball out of the park with a Republican President in office and they missed that opportunity by a mile.  Spending is out of control and they have seemed to important domestic agendas like social security and tax reform.  Not only that, a number of Republicans appeared to have let being in office so long go to their heads like it's their right instead of a privilege, particularly George Bush when he knew America was not happy with the war but kept promising it was going to be a clean sweep.  A little humble pie goes a long way, especially when your approval ratings are down.  Oh well, who listens to the masses?

This shakeup came just at the right time to wake them up and see that nothing lasts forever and they need to get their act together. Also it's better now than in 2008 so we'll have our candidate for President ready for action (at least I hope so). The Republicans had their chance and now it's time for the Democrats to show what they have. I just hope they use their time in power wisely instead of wasting it like the Republicans did. On the positive side, Bush has his veto power to keep any really liberal agendas like abortion or gay marriage from being nationalized so this really isn't a bad situation. Another thing I'm excited about is Nancy Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House. Yes, she's a VERY liberal Democrat and a little too smug for my tastes BUT she will be the first FEMALE Speaker of the House ever. That means she is THIRD in the line of succession. We women are moving up the chain of command! Three cheers for girls in government :) So over all, the election was not too big a disappointment for me. It's good to let the other party have time in power so we don't have civil unrest or riots in the street because one party has been in too long. Change is good and our government needed it :)

Thoughts on TV Shows next.  We have Heroes, CSI: Miami, Dancing With The Stars, and House to discuss :)  Oh and the best Jean Smart movie ever...Audrey's Rain!

Heroes, you are back in the thick of the action.  I was worried last week because the episode wasn't that exciting.  However the little repartee between the brothers was excellent and more of the Heroes meeting each other way cool. However the best part of the night was the little kid showing his power to fix electronics. Can't wait till next week's episode!!  CSI: Miami was actually pretty entertaining.  I didn't think I would like it because they just showed previews about fast cars and I have no interest in automobiles WHATSOEVER.  But then they revealed that there was more at work and I learned about airplane gasoline beneath suburb streets and gadgets to lift cars off the ground so of course I was drawn in.  Horatio was looking hot as ever :)  Now Dancing With The Stars!!!!!!!!  *squeeeeeeeeees*  We're down to the final three: Emmit, Joey, and Mario.  Emmit is my man and he delivered technique and entertainment with his waltz and cha cha.  Mario should win over all but his performances lack heart and entertainment value.  His tango was the best dance of the night but his cha cha was kinda of blah.  Joey tried hard to fight for a place in the finale but I just can't get over his too enthusiastic personality.  If only he was more restrained.  Good luck to all.  Saw my second episode of House and thought it was better than the previous one.  It was fun finding out what was wrong with the fat guy and the scenes with David Morse and Hugh Laurie were priceless.  They are the perfect opponents to go head to head.  Cuddy getting House a lawyer was so cute and House's off hand comment about how pretty she is.  Awwwwwwwwww!  Best part: last scene with House and Cameron...makes you wonder if they will become an item.  Just the way they shared and looked at each other....very interesting :)

Now for Audrey's Rain!  You KNOW how much I love Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin, right?  Well, I take it all back because Jean with her real life husband is SO much hotter and the chemistry is electric between them.  The movie is about a woman who is always making personal sacrifices for her family and is afraid to take a chance on romance because she's never tried to do anything for herself before.  Jean is SO funny in this movie and sweet and sympathetic and everything you would want in a leading lady who exhibits all the emotions you want to see onscreen.  And Richard!! Oh I love how he teases her and how his eyes light up when she enters a room and how he loves to get under her skin while at the same time just standing in amazement that he's in the same room.  I bet they're a great couple in real life and I bet Jean's relationship with Richard helped her form one with Greg :)  Oh I wish Jean was with Richard in more movies!! *happy sigh*

Ok time for the lyrical showcase and this time I chose two songs by Christina Aguilera.  The first one is called Love Will Find A Way and I love how it shows how relationships go through ups and downs.  When reading these lyrics, I think of the love between Martha and Charles in its most idealistic form where they won't let politics, the press, or the presidency destroy the wonderful marriage they've built over the years.  In other words, no matter what happens hang on and I'll be there for you...just give me time to reach you :)

LOVE WILL FIND A WAY (Christina Aguilera)

No one ever said
That love was gonna be easy
Gotta take the ups and downs
The in-betweens
If you take this journey
Gotta give yourself completely
Never let nobody
Ever step on our dreams

You better stop
Listen to these words that I say
You better stop
Don't you throw this good thing away
Put your trust in me
And I'll make you see

(Chorus:)
No, the rain won't last forever
Find a way to make it better
Long as we can stand together
Love will find a way
Gonna make a new tomorrow
Say goodbye to tears and sorrow
Better listen when I say
Love will find a way

Somebody tried to tell me
Love don't last forever
Said it only happens
In your wildest dreams
After all is said and done
We're still here together
Never listened to the lies
And jealousy

You better stop
Don't you let 'em turn you around
You better stop
Hang on to this love that we've found
Nothing that they say
Can stand in our way

(Repeat chorus)

You better stop
Listen to these words that I say
You better stop
Don't you throw this good thing away
Put your trust in me
And I'll make you see

(Repeat chorus)

I want you, I need you
You know that I believe you
We got it, you know it
So, if it's real, just show it
I want you, I need you
You know that I believe you
We got it, you know it
So, if it's real, just show it

(Repeat chorus)

And this next song is called We're A Miracle.  The Logans certainly are a miracle considering their VERY different personalities.  I mean a woman like Martha would have married a guy like David Palmer.  I don't know how Charles was able to capture her heart but I'm glad he did because what they create on screen is magic :)  What I really like about the song is how it says how unlikely the match was by the world's standards but somehow it happened.  If only it could have stayed that way...

WE'RE A MIRACLE (Christina Aguilera)

Here we are
Safe at last
We can breathe a sigh
It seems the storm has passed
Through it all
No one knew
That all the tears in heaven
Would bring me back to you
No one I know
Imagined we would make it
But it only matters that we both believed, oh

(Chorus:)
You and me, we're a miracle
Meant to be, and nothing can change it
Mountains move and oceans part
When they are standing in our way
You and me, we're a miracle
Angels stand watching over us
And heaven shines upon us ev'ry day

Ev'ry time
I felt near defeat
You were there for me
On my side completely
You give me strength, oh
You set me free, yeah, yeah
This is because of you
I'm more than I can be, oh
When I'm with you
The world is ours to reach for
Together, there is nothing we can't do

(Repeat chorus)

(Bridge:)
The chance was so unlikely
That we would ever be, oh
Two stars among the heavens
Destiny brought you to me

(Repeat chorus)

You and me, we're a miracle (miracle)
You and me, we're a miracle (miracle)
Miracle

And that's all folks!  I'm thinking these every other day posts aren't working out since I have so much to say on TV shows and movies hmmm.  Well I still like the small breaks in between so I can write stories, make icons, or just goof off so the plan stays...for now :)

I am now in a world where I have to hide my heart
And what I believe in but somehow I will show the world
What's inside my heart and be loved for who I am..
