ladyofavalon77: (Martha (I don't understand him...))

This journal entry is really being written on Tuesday because I spent around 4 hours watching TV yesterday.  Yes there are that many things to see!  I go from complaining about the reruns to this virtual smorgasbord of choices.  It could be worse!  Let's see now...a quick rundown of work.  My boss was gone so no extra pressure.  I got halfway through my stack of signature cards, my fellow co worker made me laugh so hard when we talked about the endless loop we're caught in because we finish 50 but then 100 come back with corrections needing to be made,  and I had a terrible day at the desk where I actually had a headache for the last hour or so.  And I NEVER get a headache.  However, I just kept reassuring myself that 24 would set everything to rights!

So let's start hammering out these reviews.  First up is Prison Break (Episode 2.14: John Doe).  To tell you the truth, I really didn't watch it as hear it.  The computer is in a room with a TV so I turned it on and listened in while surfing the internet and LJ.  I liked how there were a number of plots to discuss besides the one with the Scofield brothers.  There was the creepy one with T-Bag, the touching one with the convict who has a little daughter, and the funny one with ex-prison guard bully finding himself on the other side of the bars.  If there was a Sarah part, I missed it.  I did like seeing the older Scofield brother explode on Kellerman.  I also liked Kellerman's little smile as he trained his gun on the little wimp they picked up only to have him blow his brains out. Now they're stuck in a hotel surrounded by police because Michael's little scheme didn't exactly work.  Did I mention that all three have great chemistry together :)

Now on to Heroes and then 24 :)

Well, I had to watch one live and tape the other and I chose Heroes because I wanted to have hard copies of 24 to go back to.  Heroes...not so much.  This one was entitled "Godsend" (Episode 1.12).  There was alot of fluff and interweaving storylines but no substance.  Peter Petrelli was still in a coma having horrible nightmares about turning into the nuclear bomb that destroyed NYC while his brother and Simone try to find some way to help him by looking for the painting he had been searching for before he passed out.  Meanwhile Claire pretends to have amnesia but continues very limited conversation with the Haitian guy who is the deepest actor I've seen on the show and would like to write stories on his background.  She shows her memory wiped friend once more that she's invincible by falling from a great height and putting herself back together.  They're friends once again :)  Matt and his detective sidekick act on the thoughts he overheard from Mr. Bennett of where Sylar is but fail to find anything while further destroying their credibility at the Bureau and forcing Matt to admit his abilities to his wife.  Suresh finds out Eden's real name and her sudden death while also being confronted by Mr. Bennett on the List and choosing the side of good not evil.  Hiro finds the sword he wants at the Museum of Natural History and they decipher the symbol on its hilt as saying "great talent" and "godsend" Its the symbol on Niki's back when she becomes Jessica and found other places too (speaking Niki, she's having a hard time keeping Jessica in check while her husband tries to get their life back by returning the $2 million to Mr. Linderman but only succeeds in having to ward him off for a time).  All roads lead to Linderman as he is the one who owns the original Samurai sword (Hiro discovers this after stealing it in an unexciting manner), the painting Peter wants to see, and the money that Jessica stole earlier.  This guy should be VERY interesting to meet.  Finally the best part was the reuniting of the Heroes, specifically Hiro, Nathan, Isaac, and Simone.  Another thing....Isaac can now paint WITHOUT heroin!  Yay for being cured!  All those guys in one room was great as they really play nicely off each other...Nathan's reticence with Hiro's exuberance, etc.

Saving the best for last is 24 (Episode 6.5:10:00-11:00 AM).  I was really looking forward to this ALL weekend and was pleased with the first fifteen minutes.  Jack rescuing that guy from the chopper before it spectacularly explodes on the ground was awesome.  I'm also really digging the chemistry between Jack and Bill.  They just seem to work really well together like Tony and Jack but with a different vibe.  A brief call to Bill to see if he was alright was touching from Karen.  I squealed :)  And Lennox telling the general to shut up because the president was speaking was too awesome for words.  I LOVE this guy :)  Even though he's trying to take Karen down, the guy is so fun to watch.  Better than that wimpy, emo, girly man Wayne.  And now we get to the biggest disappointment of the night and my new most hated 24 character (#1 used to be Kim Bauer but she has been replaced by a weak excuse of a man known as Wayne Palmer).  Not even the so unrealistic and forced interaction between Jack and his supposed brother (I'm sorry but that actor CANNOT play his brother because a) they look nothing alike and b) he lacks Kiefer's charisma).  Anyways back to the despicable Palmer...the man just sat there and tried to be presidential when any moment he was ready to cry and wet his pants. It was despicable!! And to make matters worse, he gave the most HORRIBLE address to the nation in our greatest time of need.  He actually looked like he was going to cry as he told the people they needed to remain calm and they would get through this.  Not with you acting like cowardly idiot, we're not.  Wayne should have taken the bullet instead of David and we would not have to suffer through his horrible presidency for next season or two.  I swear my next mission will be to get him out of office as soon as possible.   One person I loathe above all others is Hillary Clinton but even she looks good compared to this horrible excuse for man who has the audacity to call himself a Palmer.  And that's my rant! You'll hear more of it if he continues in this manner.  On a good note, I now sympathize with those who hated Charles because I now have someone who bothers the crap out of me just as much if not more so.  I also liked the Walid scenes (not Sandra at all) and his accent is growing on me while the bit with McCarthy and his bimbo girlfriend looks to be entertaining.  Here's to hoping we see less of Wayne next week!

And the man had the audacity to say this White House storyline would be better than the Logans...In his dreams!  One final review for the night...CSI: Miami.  The episode was actually pretty good and had political ramifications :)

This was Episode 5.13 (Throwing Heat)  Evidently some Cubans were coming over to America to play ball when one stepped on a landmine and was blown sky high.  Meanwhile Eric tried to be a good Samaritan by helping out a wife taking a beating from her husband but ends up getting sued in an elaborate scheme to get money from rich guys by filing civil suits.  The CSI's grill various people about the landmine including an ex-assassin (He was a REALLY good actor and went head to head with Horatio in a wonderfully entertaining, nonchalant manner), a sports agent, and the baseball pitcher who was ultimately guilty.  Once again the immigrant was taking his job like so many do.  They also uncovered an assassin coming in to kill the leader of the "Free Cuba" movement.  Horatio ended up killing the guy with a bullet to the head but had a heartwarming conversation with the target who gives off a commanding but warm presence.  Hope he makes another appearance later this year.  Sadly, Natalia was featured in the episode again and was SO irritating.  Also Eric decided to settle and now has his wages garnished 20% each month.  It looks like he might be leaving the show because he looked around like he's not coming back and then disappeared into the crowd of people...we shall see.

This post has gone for way too long but I still want to add another chapter of "If I Should Lose You" since it IS Fan Fiction Monday :)  This one is from Martha's point of view and you'll see how much Aaron means to her when she thinks he has died.  Even in grief, she hasn't lost her ability to charm those around her.  She's an amazing woman!

CHAPTER 4

Charles, don’t leave me! What if they come back? I don’t want to be alone!

Martha, please…there’s no one here. You need to take your pills.

No! I just need you to stay here with me…until I fall asleep.

I can’t, Marty. The prime minister is waiting. I put him off as long as I could.

But I…I can’t…I don’t…I need you, Charles. Just until I fall asleep.

Martha! Listen to me! Secret Service is right outside your door.

No, Charles! I don’t want a STRANGER!! I want you!

Martha…please be reasonable. Let me call them. In fact, here is…

Agent Pierce, sir.

And I’m sure he’ll be willing to stay with you. Now Martha I have to go.

No, Charles, don’t leave me!

You’ll be fine, Marty. No one can hurt you. I’ll check on you later.

CHARLES!!! COME BACK!!!! I…I…don’t…don’t want…to be alone…

You’re not alone, Mrs. Logan.

You…you’ll stay with me? Just until I fall asleep?

Yes, ma’am.

I wouldn’t want to keep you from your duties.

My duty is to protect you, Mrs. Logan. I’ll be right here if you need me.

What’s…your name…I mean, your first name, Agent Pierce?

Aaron, ma’am.

Thank you, Aaron. I…I’m sorry to make such a scene. It’s just…been a trying day.

I understand, ma’am.

Goodnight, Aaron. And…thank you.

Goodnight, Mrs. Logan.

And she could still see him standing by her door as if it were yesterday. That terrible night before her mental breakdown. The night one man had stayed with her when another would not. And now that man was gone. Who would be there to help her fight those demons now?

As something cool and moist was pressed against her head, Martha Logan started to realize she was still alive. But where was she? Someone was tending her wounds but friend or foe? For a terrifying few moments, she couldn’t remember anything apart from her own name and began to panic because of her unexpected amnesia. However, as the world around her slowly started to come into focus, she found her memory returning and realized she was being held in an abandoned storage room with no windows and a few wooden pallets. She had survived the attack on the motorcade and was unharmed. Stale, warm air began to fill her lungs and she started coughing, pushing away the hands that tried to restrain her as she struggled to sit up.

“Mrs. Logan, you need to rest. The blow to your head was quite severe,” someone told her firmly but gently as she tried to recognize the owner of the voice in the dim lighting. For a moment, she thought the speaker was Aaron, the reassuring tone sounding so much like him. And then she remembered where she had last seen Aaron…at the site of the motorcade…his body slumped across the front seat of the limousine.

“No, no, noooooooooooo! You killed him! YOU KILLED HIM!!!!!” she suddenly screamed, flinging herself on the man in frustration and anger.

Her weak blows landed harmlessly on his broad shoulders and chest as he caught her flailing arms and held them in a viselike grip until she had thoroughly exhausted herself. Too tired to resist any longer and too emotionally weak to care, Martha allowed him to lay her back down on the wooden pallet as he continued to examine her head, neck and lower back for further injuries.

“Why do you even bother? I’m sure I won‘t be alive much longer,” she finally spoke out loud, her face wet with the tears she had shed. “Isn’t that how this works? Once the negotiations are through, you‘ll just kill me? Why not do it now and save yourself the trouble later?”

“Please, Mrs. Logan…I just want to make sure you don’t have a concussion,” he tried to reassure her as he picked up the damp cloth he had used earlier and pressed it against the bruise on the back of her head. The wound was still tender to the touch and she winced in pain as his fingers made contact.

“I’m sorry,” he replied and slowly rose to leave.

And as he turned to go, she noticed that he was nothing like Aaron. He was physically more imposing but with a quiet grace. His dull gray eyes were emotionless, a shield against the atrocities he had witnessed. And yet…there was an underlying gentleness she could not explain…as if the innocent boy he had once been had not completely died when the man had come of age. Nevertheless, she might be able to reach him if she tried.

“You know I could accept your apology if you would just let me go,” she told him simply as she kept her back facing him, knowing his was also turned away from her.

“I can’t do that. I wish I could but I can’t. If all goes well, you will be free within the next few hours.”

“We both know that isn‘t going to happen,” she told him quietly, turning around once more to see if he would do the same and found herself looking into eyes that were suddenly filled with concern. “You could at least tell me your name. Consider it the last wish of a dying woman.”

“Sacha.”

“Sacha…whoever planned this kidnapping is not going to just hand me over once they get what they want. I saw the faces of those who attacked the motorcade. They would never allow me to live with that knowledge.”

“Maybe it won’t matter. We just need to leave the country. Once the President provides us with transportation-”

“I’m as good as dead,” she finished for him in a soft voice before rising to her feet and walking over to him. Placing a hand lightly on his arm, she tried to reason with him. “I know you don’t want to see me get hurt but the only way to ensure that doesn’t happen is to help me escape. Call the guards away, leave the door unlocked, I can find my way out from there.”

“I can’t!” he replied, jerking his arm away and turning his back on her once more as his shoulder slumped in despair. “If I help you, he will kill my family. He already said he would hurt them if I didn’t assist with dispersing the nerve gas. I’m sorry, Mrs. Logan, but I can’t help you…I can’t help anyone.”

“Sacha.” she tried one more time as his hand went for the door handle. If she could just make a connection…some kind of way to gain his sympathy.

“Would it be possible to have some water?” she finally asked him, letting a slight tremor come through her gentle tone. “I haven’t had anything to drink since this morning.”

“I’ll see what I can do,” he promised and closed the door behind him, leaving her alone in the small, isolated room. But even with the door shut, she could still hear the guard outside ask why the younger man even bothered to check in on her.

“Were you trying to get some action? I mean I can give you some privacy if you need it?”

“No! Bierko said no one was to touch her. How could you even think of that?”

“What he won’t know won’t hurt him. Plus it doesn’t matter anymore. She won’t be around much longer.”

“What do you mean? The President has already met Bierko’s demands?”

“No, I mean Bierko is going to tie up all his loose ends…and that includes her. So don’t get too attached, if you know what I mean.”

“Mind your own business, Rurik. Just mind your own business.”

“Hey whatever you say, Sacha.”

And as the footsteps receded down the hallway, Martha suddenly felt a deadly chill sweep through her whole body. She had known the reality of her situation from the moment she woke up but to hear it so coldly outlined by one of her captors completely dissolved what little strength she had left. Despite surviving the attack on the motorcade…despite emerging uninjured from the assault…she was once again facing her own mortality. Wrapping her arms tightly around herself for warmth and comfort, she found herself sliding slowly down to the floor as she braced herself against the cold stone wall.

C’mon, Martha! Snap out of it! You’re not dead yet. Every problem has a solution. You just have to find it. Look around. Study your surroundings. There must be SOMETHING that can help you. Something you’ve missed.

Her eyes searched the surrounding solid walls and knew she would find no weaknesses to exploit. There were no windows to bang on, no tools left behind to use as weapons, and no furniture to break apart. As she closed her eyes and prepared to accept her fate, the soft but steady sound of dripping water reached her ears. Slowly getting up from the floor, she followed the sound to a wooden pallet hidden in the back corner of the room.

A leak from the ceiling had formed a small pool of water that had flowed beneath the pallet and left behind the rank odor of mildew. Coils of old rope covered the rotting wood and Martha quickly went to remove them. And as she removed the piles of rope, she discovered the wooden slats of this pallet had broken in two from months of rot and decay, leaving the edges sharp and brittle to the touch. A plan began to form in her mind and she smiled as she took off one high heeled shoe and knelt down beside the damaged pallet, getting to work to remove the slat from it’s mooring.

The odds of her making a successful escape attempt had just increased dramatically.

Is that good?  Or should I go on? Hehe I think that's more than enough for one day *winks*

Charles, please tell me you're lying...please tell me you weren't involved with Palmer's death...just tell me you knew nothing about it...
