I love the sound of his voice...
Evidently it gets more viewers on pay per view than primetime draws in with baseball. Interesting! What I really liked about it was the concentration on David's childhood in Brooklyn. The supporting characters are just as strong as the main ones and makes Numbers always an interesting show to watch. He's even got a thing going on with the coroner...they seem to be a good match. She's from NYC, he's from NYC, she's pretty tough, he's pretty tough, and I like the way her eyes light up when she's around him. Hopefully, they bring her back :)
Also LOVED Charlie's obsession with beating the other college professor at poker. Their little turf war was hilarious as first his opponent released a noxious gas in his office and then Charlie boarded up the other guy's office door so he couldn't get in. It's the little stories in Numbers that keep me hooked! Charlie's Dad walking in Amita and his son was funny as well :)
Now time to try out another great meme I found illusory_thrill's journal. She chose Sally Field, I choose Jean Smart :)
Actress: Jean Smart
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :: :Professional Life.
1. What is her best movie, quality-wise?:
Audrey's Rain. She gets to show so many things with this movie from being a mean, embittered foster mother to a crazy, funny friend to a romantic leading lady to a loving, tender aunt. She also has AMAZING chemistry with her real life husband.
2. What is her worst movie, quality-wise?
3. What is her funniest movie?
The Kid. She has great timing with Bruce Willis and though she only has two scenes, they are best ones in the movie. I love how she connects with Willis' character and she is so much taller than him but of course they don't show it. Her southern accent is charming!4. What is her most intense movie?
Guinevere. I only saw a brief clip of her performing this one scene with her daughter's older love interest but it was chilling to say the least as she analyzes the relationship he has with her daughter in a cold, calculating way you would never believe she was capable of. The woman has talent!5. What is her best performance?
Without a doubt, Season Five of 24. I always liked Jean Smart but I never loved her until she became Martha Logan. Because the character is slightly unhinged, it gave Jean a whole range of emotions to play with and she is in top form presenting this character in a compelling and entertaining way that in anyone else's hands would have come off as an annoyance.
6. What is her worst performance?
The Odd Couple II. But only because I didn't like the character she played. She really has very few "bad" performances. Jean wanted to look like a biker chick and had her hair spiked and colored. What was really funny was Walter Matheau's reaction when he saw her.7. Best love scene?
This is so difficult because I really like her onscreen romance with her real life husband but I also am so in love with her relationship with Gregory Itzin. I'll go with the one in Audrey's Rain because there was no faking the attraction those two felt now they were married which gets slightly higher points for being real while the Logan marriage was still just an act (though it's my favorite)8. Worst love scene?
A Very Married Christmas. There was like NOTHING between her and Joe Montegna. I don't know if it was a personality conflict or they just didn't feel anything but you could see she was trying but he was not succombing to her many charms. Shame on him!9. She has the best romantic chemistry with...
I'll give this to Gregory Itzin since I gave the other one to her real life husband. Though only friends, there is something about them where they fall into a nice, familiar rhythm of an old married couple who have known each other for years. She's his equal on playing the full emotions in a scene and both are great at getting under each other's skins when need be. That's why they were both nominated for Supporting Actor...they make a great team.
10. She has the best comedic chemistry with...
Richard Gilliland. He knows just how to poke fun at her so that she reacts in such a cute, defensive way that's adorable to watch. They also have excellent timing due to being married so many years. You can see how her unpredictable way in playing a scene brings joy to his craft as an actor.11. She has the worst chemistry with...
Joe Montegna. I've never seen a man so unmoved by her attempts to seduce him. He's usually much better than that.12. Best speech/monologue given in a movie
Well, I have to go with Season Five of 24. There are so many speeches and great lines. However, I think my favorite is this one:Charles Logan: "Can you forgive me?"
Martha Logan: "You acted like the President of the United States."
Charles Logan: "Yes, I did...but you wanted me to be your husband first..."
Martha Logan: "I can't pretend that I didn't...I still love you...as much as I always did..."
Charles Logan: "Marty-"
Martha Logan: "Shhhh...there'll be plenty of time for us later...you have to get back to work...the country needs you...more than I do..."
Emmy award winning to say the least!
13. If you could choose a movie for her to win an Oscar for, what would it be?
Well, in this case it would be Emmy for Season Five of 24. The woman worked her butt off and did amazing things with the Martha Logan character by not only making her believable despite all the twists and turns but also leaving her own mark on a well respected series :)Personal Life
1. Favorite off-screen love interest?:
Well, after her husband, it would have to be Gregory Itzin. They already carry on like an old married couple and they complement each other so well with her beautiful angelic face contrasting nicely with his dark, Nixon type face. They both are funny people when interviewed. I know she would challenge him intellectually and dramatically and Greg strikes me as a person who enjoys working with someone who is always unpredictable. I think that's why he told the producers he liked her best out of the list they had compiled of actresses to play his onscreen wife.
2. Favorite child?
She only has one...a nice, regular teenage boy that she mentions every chance she gets. I bet she's a great Mom.
3. Favorite set story?
4. Favorite thing she's ever said in real life
I LOVED reading this quote when she found out she had been nominated for an Emmy :)Smart, who plays first lady Martha Logan on the crime drama, was particularly delighted that Gregory Itzin was nominated for his performance as President Charles Logan. "Nobody deserves it more than him," she said. "We're a team. It would be weird if one of us got nominated and the other didn't."
5. What is it that you like about her?:
I like how she brings something fresh and new to whatever role she plays, no matter how small it is. Some people show up for work and just read the script. Jean goes in there, looks at the script and realizes it's only the beginning. You have to put your own stamp on it so the viewers will always remember your character and sometimes you have to make changes or go to a place you've never been before to get that perfect performance. As Greg has said, Jean's not afraid to get dirty to make something turn out right and in this age of facials and plastic surgery, that's saying something!: : : : : : : : : : : : : : :: :
Hope you enjoyed my thoughts on one of my favorite actresses. Please feel free to use the meme if you feel so inclined.
Keep talking, Charles...maybe you'll realize I no longer care to hear what you have to say...
no subject
That woman could have chemistry with a brick wall, though. Gotta love her.
*giggles*
Special mention: Soulmate Chemistry with Glenn Morshower as Aaron Pierce. Though no one can put an exact finger of when the flames of attraction ignited between the characters of Martha Logan and Aaron Pierce there is no denying the inherent chemistry between the two actors whenever they're in the same room. From the admiring look Martha gives her Secret Service protector to the way Aaron's face softens each time he sees her there is just something that clicks where the two of them are involved. It's what I call soulmate chemistry...never have met before but they easily fall into a comfortable rhythm that only old friends or married couples ever find.
