He walks among us but is not one of us...

Favorite line of the night from Lost.  Not as good as the first episodes this season but still very very intriguing :)  And there was definite chemistry between Jack and Juliet...still don't trust her because she seems like someone who could play both sides.  Anyways, on to a brief summary of my day.  Nothing much to report except I'm swimming in visa apps and can't get them done in time because I'm being pulled in every direction but the one I want to go. Hopefully tomorrow we'll be slow and I can get things done!

Meanwhile back on the island...or should we say "islands"?  In Episode 3.9 ("Stranger in a Strange Land") Ben's stitches have become infected, Juliet's about to be executed for killing an Other, and a new enigmatic but powerful other is introduced.  First Sawyer and Kate make it to the other side but start arguing as they find out things are not like they thought it would be now that they have slept together.  I think part of it is Kate's inherent need to run from a relationship and part of it is her deep connection to Jack. Either way the chemistry was just not there tonight.

Ben is amazingly cool, even flat on his back.  I just loved the way he said "What's this going to cost me?" to Jack.  And as they were negotiating with each other, I found a strange chemistry emerging between the two.  Both are smart and go head to head really well.  Sort of like Kiefer and Greg :D  Interestingly, he revealed that Juliet is only playing Jack and never really cared for him.  I have to admit the chemistry was really going up a couple notches between Jack and Juliet even if it's a lie...the glances, the tender touch when he put aloe on her branded back, the way her voice takes on a softer tone no one else has.  If it IS some kind of manipulation on her part, she's doing a really GOOD job :)

Meanwhile, sparks were flying between Jack and Bai Ling in his flashback.  She really IS a great Chinese actress who can feel everything...I think it's because she has gone to the dark place and that always brings out one's best acting when you know what both sides are like.  Still confused on why they beat him up when she tattooed him though I think it has to do with some local superstition.  For a minute, I thought she was an Other when she talked about her gift but now I don't think so.  The kite scene was cute.  Only question I have is...where do the Others call home?

Well, time for a little 24 fan fiction.  We have Chapter 8 of "If I Should Lose You" and I REALLY REALLY need to write more so by the time it's Wednesday again I post it :)  This one is Aaron's point of view and was difficult to right because a) it's Aaron and b) it's a lot of action.  Neither of which I'm great at.  Could use some improvement but over all not that bad :)

CHAPTER 8

They had decided to park the SUV about a block away from Pier 41 to maintain the element of surprise as they approached on foot. With Jack falling naturally into the point position, Aaron moved quickly to cover his flank, weapon gripped securely in his hands while taking note of everything around him. The call of the seagulls and the taste of the salty air reminded him once more of his son who had joined the Navy just a few years ago. The last time Aaron had been to the docks was to drop the boy off after some quality time spent together on a shore leave that had ended too soon. He was a good son and Aaron was more proud of him than he would ever say.

If anything should happen, I know that I leave behind a son who has served his country and his family with honor and distinction. And that’s all I could ever ask.

As they entered the abandoned shipyard, Aaron wondered if his stiff shoulder could become a problem. Even now he could feel a slight twinge in his upper back as they cautiously stepped around empty cargo containers rusting on the cracked asphalt. However, this was not the time to lose his edge and Aaron renewed his determination to press on despite the physical discomfort. There would be plenty of time to rest later. Right now he needed to stay focused on the mission at hand.

Just as the reached the middle of the property, Jack abruptly raised his hand to signal a sudden stop while lifting up two fingers and gesturing around the corner of the empty cargo containers to their left. A soft gentle breeze from the ocean soon allowed his ears to detect the sound of two men in deep conversation, unfortunately their words too muffled to comprehend. Pulling out a small mirror from his pocket, Jack carefully held it in his hand before slowly extending his arm out beyond the corner of the cargo container beside them. The former CTU agent only needed a few moments to confirm the identity of Christopher Henderson. They had found their quarry.

Gesturing for Aaron to cover Henderson's associate, Jack made his way around the other side of the lot to get a better position on his former mentor. With their targets busy setting up equipment at the back of a nondescript SUV, Aaron raised his weapon to a ready position as he listened to the countdown Jack had started. Both men were wearing earpieces to better communicate their movements in the field, borrowed from the equipment they had found in their transport. Each man had also secured an additional weapon, extra ammunition, and a utility knife, unsure of what lay ahead but no need to go in unprepared.

"3...2...1...Go!" Jack ordered as both men simultaneously emerged from the shadows, weapons trained on their respective targets. Responding on instinct alone, Henderson went to withdraw his gun and spin around to meet this unexpected threat. Jack, knowing what his former mentor's first reaction would be, never gave him the opportunity to fire, closing the distance before he could get a shot off and slamming him into the side of the parked SUV. Meanwhile Aaron found his target a little more difficult to take down as the man fired a few shots in their direction before bolting for the nearest exit. Taking careful aim from behind, the older man brought Henderson's associate down with a precise shot to the right thigh. Ignoring the man's curses in his native language, Aaron quickly secured the man's hands before dragging him back to the SUV where Jack had already begun his interrogation of Henderson.

"Where is the nerve gas, Christopher?"

"Right under your nose, Jack. Why do you think I’m out here?”

“Then you won’t mind showing me the way.”

“Only if you leave CTU out of it. I want to contain the situation as much as you do but bring CTU into this and you can search these warehouses on your own.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Believe what you want, Jack. I have a contract to fulfill and a limited window of opportunity. Do you want my help or not?”

“Jack…” Agent Pierce quietly intervened, studying the view screen of a laptop he had found in the back of the SUV. “I think you should see this.”

Dragging Henderson with him, the former CTU agent narrowed his eyes at the map displayed on the computer. It was the simple layout of a large warehouse but with exits clearly marked and blind spots specifically circled to alert an advance team of how they should approach the location. Further investigation revealed access to a satellite feed denoting real time updates on the number of heat signatures within the building as well as a detailed analysis of Vladimir Bierko and his contingent of armed men.

“Why are you willing to help us, Christopher? What changed your mind so quickly?”

“If you’ve talked to Nathanson, you know the plan was to allow the nerve gas to go back to the terrorist base of operations and detonate the canisters once they arrived there. We didn’t want the gas released on American soil but there was nothing we could do. Now I’m here to make situation right,” Henderson argued as Jack looked away and weighed his options. “Face it, Jack. You don’t have time to debate this with me. Accept my conditions or escort me back to CTU. It‘s your choice.”

“There‘s something else here, Christopher,” Bauer growled and dropped his voice to a more threatening tone as he pinned his former mentor against the side of the SUV with his arm against his throat. “And I WILL find out what it is. You’re going to show us where the canisters of are and you’re going to pay for every single life that was lost today…if it is the last thing I do.”

“That was always your problem, Jack. You never could separate your emotions from your work,” Henderson commented as his former student released him to explain the game plan he had set in place. “You care too much. And THAT’S what will kill you in the end…now you see the warehouse straight ahead? With the green tinted windows on the second floor? We were able to track the terrorists to that location. I just confirmed the Intel myself a few minutes ago. Bierko and his men are still there but for how long is anyone’s guess. We need to move in now before they decide to transport the canisters out of the country.”

“Judging from the heat signatures on this feed, I would say our best point of entry is this door right here,” Jack volunteered, pointing out a narrow exit on their side of the building. “Just a short hallway across from the main staging area where the greatest number of men are gathered. Henderson, you stay with me. Agent Pierce, you follow.”

“I’ll need a weapon, Jack.”

“I’ll cover you,” Bauer told him curtly, cocking his gun in one smooth motion and gesturing for Henderson to walk ahead of the two men. “The only reason I’m not leaving you behind is that I want the pleasure of shooting you myself if this intel turns out to be wrong. Just give me the slightest reason to pull this trigger, Christopher…and I will.”

It didn’t take long for them to reach the warehouse and Jack left Henderson under Pierce’s watchful eye to perform a sweep of the perimeter that would later ensure a successful exit strategy. However, as they waited for his return, Aaron could feel the other man’s eyes upon him as he tried to discern his role in all this. The presence of a lone Secret Service agent on this particular mission was puzzling at best.

“I know why Jack is here…but I’m afraid I don‘t quite comprehend the reason for why you‘re here, Agent Pierce…unless of course this has to do with the First Lady’s disappearance. Of course, that would mean you were spearheading an investigation into the kidnapping…but if that was the case where are your fellow agents? Why haven‘t you followed protocol and reported in with her possible location? Maybe you don’t want to jeopardize the mission because you‘re concerned for her safety…or maybe it‘s more than that. Maybe it’s because you have a more…personal…tie with Mrs. Logan? ”

“My duty is to protect and serve the President of the United States.”

“Spoken as a true patriot. However, I would keep in mind that not everyone has the same priorities. If there comes a choice between the safety of the country or the safety of the First Lady, you might find yourself turning on the man you have come to trust. Understand that Jack Bauer is prepared to do anything necessary to secure those canisters of nerve gas. Therefore you must decide…how important is your charge to protect the First Lady with the lives of thousands weighing in the balance?”

Aaron Pierce would not give the man the satisfaction of a reply to his question. He knew that Henderson was just trying to bait him, searching for chinks in his armor that he could take advantage of later. Therefore, the best way to counter this obvious game of manipulation was not to play at all. Silence was his greatest weapon and Aaron took full advantage of this opportunity to use it. However, even as Jack returned and they resumed their assault on the building, he could not help but think of Henderson’s last words.

If it comes down to the wire…and I have to make a choice between the country or Martha…would I be able to let her go? Would I be able to let her die so that thousands could live? How can I choose between my duty to protect her or my duty to serve this country? Have I allowed personal feelings to cloud my judgment? But more importantly, have I betrayed the charge that I was entrusted to keep?

I love putting Aaron in such a conundrum...Martha or the country?  Who better than Henderson to pose that particular question :D

I should invite Morris over for a drink...I'm sure we'd have lots to talk about...

Lost ended this Monday in Germany. I downloaded all ep's of season 3 already (except #9), but didn't start to watch it yet.
Maybe this Saturday I make a Lost marathon and then I'm at your Lost status and we can talk about the ep's! :D
But 9 ep's are much.. I'm not sure if I'll really watch all 9 at once...

I hope I can watch 24 today... and I also started to download ep's of Cold Case... much to watch *g*

But man, it's so unfair... I hate to sit at the stupid computer at this damn uncomfortable desk chair... meh. *needs a dvd burner or something*
Or Germany should send all new ep's in tv ... *future dreams*

awwww

I wish they could run side by side! Season Three is my favorite because of the Others. I bought Season One and haven't seen it yet. I really like Ben and Juliet :)
