So I have been looking forward to the premiere of The Sarah Connor Chronicles since I heard it was being made and Lena Headey was going to be cast. I saw her in the previews of 300 and fell in love. The woman has strength and depth. Then I saw _ila_'s post with the awesome promo pics from the series and her comment that she looks like Nina and she's SO right it's freaky! Anyway on to the review :)
The Pilot (Episode 1.1). Well A+ for action but the story was a little lacking. I love the actors and the guy who plays John is better in this than he was on Heroes. DEFINITELY more masculine and you can see why his agent was against him being cast as a gay character on Heroes. It would have ruined his chances to play John here. There are hints of greatness in his performance and look forward to seeing him develop. Summer Glau isn't too bad and kicks butt but her performance is wooden since she is a machine. I wish the Terminators had more personality like the six models in BSG. Pounding each other into the floor isn't that entertaining. Lena is all kinds of awesome as she trains her son to be the leader of the resistance movement. Move over Linda Hamilton, a new Sarah Connor is in town! I like how she's both tought and tender with her son, perfect combination.
Gnothi Seauton (Episode 1.2). More of the mystery revealed. It was funny seeing them appear naked in the future and I liked how John visited the guy Sarah was engaged too. I hope they use him more, he reminds me of the guy in The Transporter. I also want to know more about the future and would love some episode set there where we're at war with the machines sort of like The Matrix :) I'd love to see older John. Lena and Summer did a great job at the house where they needed to get new identities. I loved how they played a little domestic spat out to get the cop off their backs. John going to school is so mundane when there are other things at stake. A thought did occur to me before they jumped...what if the son of the creator of Skynet takes up his father's work? Do you have the guts to kill a kid?
Overall, three out of four stars but not a GREAT love like I had for season five of 24. There are just no great character interactions to ship in a fanlike way.
