Forgive this slight indulgence :)
Ok so my favorite couple didn't win on Sunday night so I have decided to have my revenge with my OWN news article. Yes there are probably grammatical errors and yes it's not a perfect news piece written in that no nonsense style that displays the facts so well but it's fun and it's witty and it's CUTE! Most importantly, it allows me to lay this issue to rest once and for all. So for anyone reading this piece, REMEMBER IT'S NOT A REAL ARTICLE, IT'S JUST FICTION :) Thank you!
THE FIRST COUPLE OF THE EMMY'S: GREGORY ITZIN AND JEAN SMART
By Anne Ominous, Associated Press Writer

(08-28) 12:34 PDT LOS ANGELES, (AP) -- It was a great night for 24 as the action thriller stole the night away with awards in five major categories: Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series. The Fox TV show has been on the air for five years now and has actually increased the size of its viewership, coming off its strongest season yet as action hero Jack Bauer once again saved the world from eminent disaster. Evidently, the Emmy voters agreed by selecting 24 for its highest honors in the film industry on Sunday night.
However, the real reason for why this season of 24 was such a success lies in the complicated, dysfunctional but ultimately entertaining marriage of Charles and Martha Logan played by veteran actors Gregory Itzin and Jean Smart. Itzin brought home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series while Jean Smart was awarded Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It is the first nomination and first win for Mr. Itzin and the third win and fifth nomination for Ms. Smart.
During his acceptance speech, Itzin emphasized the important role of teamwork in bringing him to this point in his life. “I want to thank the producers of 24 for allowing me to play one of the most complex presidents in television history. It has truly been an honor. A leading man is lost without a leading lady so I would also like to thank Jean for her willingness to support me as my onscreen wife and Judy for just being there all these years as my real wife. You’re an inspiration to me and to our children. Thank you.”
Smart‘s thoughts appeared to mirror those of her fellow actor as she took the podium. “Wow, I never expected to be up here again and I want to thank you for this honor. It’s been an amazing journey with 24 and I’ve had a wonderful time getting to know everyone. This would not have been possible without the support of two men…Greg who told the producers he wanted me for his wife…Thank you for the job! And of course my husband Richard who has been so supportive during all those long months of filming. Thank you, honey, I love you more than words can say.”
Backstage, the two were inseparable as they gave joint interviews to the waiting press corps. As for a return to their roles in 24, neither would opposed to the idea but were unsure how the writers would fit them in. “We would love to return to the show but the question is whether they can write us in organically. If they can, great. If not, it’s been a wonderful run and we wish them the best of luck.”
At this point, Smart looks at Itzin with her best Martha smile before commenting, “We know that you’ll be back. They probably will need to know any information you have on that man you were on the phone with most of the day. The question is whether I’ll be back to kick your sorry ass or just to watch from the sidelines.”
“You wouldn’t!” Itzin replies in mock indignation, turning into Logan once more.
“Just you watch,” she replies with a wink, the chemistry between the two actors apparent to anyone in the room. There is no question about why the fifth season of 24 was such a success. Truly it was the result of excellent teamwork and a strong friendship. Definitely, a perfect night for the First Couple of the Emmy Awards.
I love writing fiction *rubs hands gleefully*
