ladyofavalon77: (Greg (That's Good!))
[personal profile] ladyofavalon77

Because of the significance of the day’s events, there will be no fan fiction posted or any other thing that normally goes with the days entry. Just a little blurb on how my meeting with Gregory Itzin went…or lack there of J It really was for the best as I will explain and I feel like I’m one of the family because I met his wife J

Ok first, we left later than earlier planned because I was bringing my brother and mother. Since I’ve only had my driver’s license for a year and have never driven outside of my home city, they didn’t trust me to make the trip alone. It was fine because company is nice. I brought my 24 magazine and the cover of season five with Greg’s picture on the front. I had a marker I hoped would work on it but who knew? Better to have all bases covered. We even brought the digital camera so I could upload pictures J

We arrived at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club. REALLY nice landscaping with beautiful trees and rich green grass. The architecture of the Inn/Club reminded me of a hotel in Europe…lovely sculpted verandas and Mediterranean colors. Quite beautiful. We came when the golfers should be rounding up their last shots and asked one of the guys keeping track of their progress where Greg was. He told us which direction to go and how many holes he had left. We found out he was down to five!

I really wanted to go down that way and stalk him to the eighteenth hole but we forgot the camera and my Mom was worried about getting my brother some lunch since he would get back just in time for work. We decided I would get the camera and they would order lunch at the club. The prices weren’t too bad and Mom had met the chef. I went all the way back and fetched the camera as well as some other things before heading up the golf course. Evidently, I was doing something dangerous because I was heading toward the golfers AS they’re swinging and a few shouted “Fore!” which means to get out of the way so you don’t get hit. Later, I thought it would have been funny if Greg teed off and got hit by his ball. What a way to meet him. I’m sure he would be all concerned and sweet while helping me get to the nearest medical station *giggles*

Anyways I almost missed him. He’s so short and had a cap on so didn’t really stand out. However, something told me that he was in the cart that passed me by so I followed that group back to the eighteenth hole and then I heard his laugh. I was so giddy with excitement that I just stood far off watching him laugh and joke with the guys in his group. They really weren’t that good but they were from the company sponsoring the entire event: GlaxoSmithKline so probably VERY rich J Greg is JUST like he is in the interviews…light, funny, and chatty. He’s serious about golf too…lining up the ball, trying out different clubs, practicing different swings J Best part was when they had to putt the ball into the hole at the end. One guy just hit it and Greg shouted “Speed speed SPEED!!” but the ball missed. Then Greg got ready to putt his in but the announcer got on and thanked the celebrities for coming out to which Greg said “Thank you too, Tom.” in a funny way. Then they all joked about getting the guy to shut up so he could just putt the ball. Finally there was silence and he did…a perfect shot into the hole. They congratulated him and it was a VERY fun moment J I just smiled and waited as they drove by…too shy to approach him yet.

When he got back to the club, he started to unload his things and I got my stuff for him to sign but waited near the autograph tent because I didn’t want to intrude. He looked very tired and I thought he would come up right after. Unfortunately, it was not to be as he headed out to the Golf Shop and never returned. I don’t regret delaying my approach because as he entered the Golf Shop he started flexing his right hand like he was feeling the onset of a heart attack or suffering from arthritis or carpal tunnel. From what we learned later from his wife, he was really tired and my approach would not have been good timing. The game had gone on longer than it was supposed to and it was due to being with bad golf players so I’m sure he was exhausted after the match. I got to see him from a distance so I’m happy J

At any rate, we waited a good 45 minutes outside before we realized he wasn’t coming down. Even asked some people about where he was and they were so sweet to look around downstairs to see if they could find him. No luck but they couldn’t stop saying how nice and down to earth he was. Always a good sign J I decided we should walk through the lobby just in case he came down and we bumped into him. Low and behold, I spotted his wife. She has a very distinctive hair style and look so it was easy to see her.

Mom and I followed her down a hallway before calling out “Mrs. Itzin?” She responded with “Yes?” and turned around, making it a wonderful moment to remember always. When I first saw her on TV I didn’t much care for her and thought Jean was a better match. But now that I saw her in person, she IS Greg’s perfect match in every way. She’s grounded, down to earth, uniquely beautiful, and a very compassionate person. Mom told her about how I wanted to see him and how far we came (I was speechless and didn’t know what to say hehe). We also hoped that Greg’s game wasn’t a shipwreck (reference to his latest play hehe) and how we loved him on 24. Well, she told us he was napping and taking a shower. At that point, I told her we wouldn’t want to disturb him… he probably was exhausted from the golf game and thanked her taking the time to talk to us.

However, before we could leave, she said she would be happy to take my magazine and have him sign it. THEN THEY WOULD MAIL IT BACK TO ME!!!!!!! I was never so excited in my life…I didn’t know what to do. I could only write my name and address on an envelope in a daze while sticking it in the center of the magazine. With that type of paraphernalia, she shouldn’t lose it and she looks VERY organized. I think she might actually get it back to me. If not, it’s the thought that counts. She didn’t have to do that but she did and she was so gracious. I love her already!! And I might get a note, their address, an autographed picture or just the magazine. Either way I’m sure it will be nice. From what I heard, they’re the friendliest people you could meet and it’s TRUE!! Greg might also make the connection that I was the one who saw him putt the 18th hole because I was the only civilian standing there and I had a distinctive turquoise top with an embroidered blouse on. If he asks what I look like when his wife shows him the magazine, he might then say that it sounds like the young woman who was standing there watch me golf that last game. I hope that happens and I hope he comes next year so we can meet him for real. But for now, meeting his wife was enough. It’s like being part of the family . I mean anyone can meet the star but how many times do you get to meet the spouse??? *squeeeeeeeeeeeeee*

And that’s all for now, my dear friends J Wish me luck next time he’s in town!

I'm just as funny in person as I am on TV!

Glad you had fun! Golf can be quite boring, but I'm sure it was worth it!

By the way, you know both Greg and Jean are both happily married, right? *laughs* I think you're the first Greg/Jean shipper I've come across! I get the sense that they're just friends! *g*

Thanks!

I really don't ship Greg and Jean...just Charles and Martha. I try to distinguish the two by using their character names only. I had just never saw his wife like that before. On TV she didn't seem to be that great compared to Jean but in person...SO MUCH BETTER :)

It's been two weeks. I wonder if he forgot or it got lost in the mail. I did receive my replacement 24 magazine...just in case he doesn't return the one I sent him.

I LOVE the Pearl Harbor soundtrack...the music is so haunting..perfect for Charles/Martha hehe.
